Scenario: Referral is created in Elation, outside of a Visit Note.
After the user (provider) signs and there are multiple draft visit notesthe user is prompted with an option to select a draft note to link the referral to, or cancel.
However, if a Referral is created outside of a visit note, and there is only one draft visit note in the patient chart, the system auto-links that referral to that draft note, and does not provide the option to not attach it.
Elation treats the presence of a single note as the necessary context for the referral and automatically links it. This is intended behavior.
- the user will not know that this has occurred if they do not review the referral in detail after they sign it.
Response: CareHub's best practice recommendation is the following:
- initiate a referral from within a Visit Note to ensure that each referral is associated to the correct visit note, given that there are multiple providers documenting
- when creating a referral, review the "Requiring Action" items within the Patient Chart first. If there is only a single unsigned office note, review the referral after it's signed and remove the associated visit note.
