INFO: Clinical EMR - Medication Management - Suspended, On-Hold, and Temporary Medications

Suspending Medications 

Current functionality does not allow for suspension of medications or to place on hold. 

Best Practice Recommendations: 

• Create a User Group in the Settings to notify users who are responsible for Medication Administration

Settings > Admin Users Only > User Groups >< Add User Group

• If a medication needs to be suspended, use the Office Messaging to alert the team. Office messages are sent to users and will also remain in the patient's Chronological Record. 

Keep message clear with suspension start/end dates defined

 

Temporary Medications

The prescription form does not allow for an end date to be added on the script. 

Best Practice Recommendations: 

• enter a custom sig to define exact dosage, frequency, quantity, and end date

We recommend Permanent status for visibility in Clinical Profile

• use Office Messaging to remind PCP or RX Delegate to action Discontinue. Office messages are sent to users and will also remain in the patient's Chronological Record. 

Office Messages can be Post Dated
