Overview
The Safe Editing feature in Care Hub helps prevent users from accidentally overwriting each other’s work when editing a participant’s care plan. It provides clear visual indicators to show when a section is being edited—either by you or by another user—so updates remain accurate and intentional.
This feature works in both Draft and Active Care Plans. This feature will be available effective April 8, 2026.

How Safe Editing Works
Editing Existing Care Plan Items
When you edit information that already exists in the care plan—such as a problem, measurable outcome, intervention, or content checklist—Care Hub displays an “Editing” indicator.
What you’ll see:
- A visible tag showing that you are actively editing that section
- The indicator remains while changes are in progress
- Once you apply/save your changes, the indicator disappears
This helps confirm that you are the current editor and that your updates are protected while you work.
Adding New Items
When you add new content (for example, a new problem, outcome, or intervention):
- No “Editing” indicator appears
- The item is treated as new content, not a modification of existing data
When Another User Is Editing
If another user is editing a section you want to update, that section becomes locked.
What you’ll see:
- A yellow lock indicator
- The name of the user currently editing that section
- Editing controls are disabled for that specific item
What’s Still Allowed
Even if a section is locked:
- You can still add new interventions under the same problem or outcome
- You cannot edit or change the locked item itself until it’s released
This allows multiple disciplines to work in parallel without interfering with each other’s updates.
When a Locked Section Becomes Available
A locked section will automatically unlock when one of the following occurs:
- The other user saves and finishes their edits
- The other user logs out or times out (after 28 minutes of inactivity)
Once unlocked:
- The lock indicator disappears
- The page refreshes to show the most recent updates
- You can proceed with editing that section
Safe Editing in the Content Checklist
Safe Editing also applies to the Content Checklist within the care plan.
If another user is updating a checklist item:
- The checklist will appear locked
- You won’t be able to make changes until the other user saves
- Once released, the checklist refreshes to show the updated information
Why Safe Editing Matters
The Safe Editing feature helps ensure:
- Changes aren’t accidentally overwritten
- Multiple users can work confidently at the same time
- Care plans remain accurate, consistent, and up to date
Summary
Safe Editing in Care Hub:
- Clearly shows when you are editing existing care plan content
- Prevents edits when another user is working in the same section
- Automatically unlocks sections when editing is complete or times out
- Supports collaborative, multi‑disciplinary care planning
